Fall is still officially a few weeks away in Central Oregon but if you’ve lived here for any length of time you know that it’s possible for us to have snow as early as September.
Thankfully, there are a variety of things you can do to get yourself ready for snow and the cold weather months in Central Oregon by following these tips
Tips for Getting Ready for Fall
Invest In GPS – It doesn’t matter how old your vehicle is, you should invest in a GPS unit because, using a GPS, like a car insurance will save you time and money if you were ever to get caught off guard by the snow and sent on a detour by the Oregon Highway Patrol. GPS units cost anywhere from $85 to $500 but the investment is totally worth it if you only use it once.
Winter Kit – Your winter kit should have a sleeping bag, blanket, flashlight, pre-paid cell phone (with minutes added), a bottle of water, matches, flashlight, freeze dried food and hand-held games (just in case you ever get stuck in your vehicle during a snow storm.
Have A Plan – Before going anywhere this winter, especially if you plan on driving over Mount Hood, always make sure that you have a plan and tell your family members or relatives where you plan on going, that way people always know where you’re going and they will be able to trace your route, even during the dead of winter.
